Sargent #5607 Block Plane
Low Angle. With Screw Adjustment. Knuckle Joint.
No. 5607, Nickel-Plated Trimmings, 7 Inches, 1 5/8 Inch Cutter
In his book “Sargent Planes – Identification and Value Guide” Dave Heckel describes this
plane as a low angle block plane with a very unusual body. It is seven inches long but it has the mouth of a six-inch plane (#306). Although it was produced for 35 years, it was not made in great quantities. It is a relatively scarce plane to find intact as the examples that turn up are usually cracked at the mouth and the assumption then being that once broken they were probably discarded. The cutters do not have the number of the plane marked on them. There was also a Sears Craftsman version of the 5607 but it was usually painted gray.
