These interesting Plow Plane images where sent to me along with this email. Thank You.

Here is a deepening plane hallmarked A. Siffert (metal with wooden handles).
This A. Siffert must have been a precursor or follower of Ignace Chardoillet, who filed patents in France (1844) for prestigious metal planes.

Only five planes of the Siffert brand are listed, and mine (the 6th) is the only one to bear the initial of the first name A of this Mr. Siffert (around 1850 or earlier, given the rusticity of this plane). Unfortunately, there are no patents filed for his planes.

We know that A. Siffert had his planes made in Molsheim, because the other planes bear the inscription SIFFERT MOLSHEIM, as Chardoillet must have also had them made in Molsheim from 1844 to 1852, perhaps by Coulaux, and also Mr. Constant Nicolas (who was a lemonade maker) also had them made from 1847 to 1849 (also patented).

But nothing is known about this A. Siffert. Research was done by the co-authors of the book “Les Rabots”, JC Parent and Pierre Bouillot.

In the photos, you can see that the handle on the front is not original; it was missing, so I had to test handles based on the rare existing Siffert planes.

Regarding the blade assembly, we don’t know how it was originally mounted, since the original blade wasn’t there (there was an English P. Law plough blade that wasn’t suitable), so I tested several blades or blade and counter-blade systems.

I’m attaching a photo of this plough as I originally found it and after cleaning, with two different handles tested; as well as 2 photos of  existing Siffert planes

If you have additional information for A.Siffert let me know.
