Interesting Hand Plane Tidbit for Today (1)

Samuel Oxhandler’s design, patent #D137,230, for a bench plane was done for the Sargent Company of New Haven, Connecticut. It was later cited as a reference in the design patent for the Millers Falls Buck Rogers plane patent #D159339, which borrows heavily from the original design.

The Sargent version  was never produced, but would have looked similar to this patent drawing.

The Millers Falls versions are commonly known as the “Buck Rogers” Planes. The smoother sized version is the No 709, and the jack plane version is the No. 714.
